On June 2016, Hue has been named among 18 National Earth Hour Capitals worldwide, a title given by the conservation group WWF to honor sustainable urban development.
Even in the first time to participate, Hue passes rigorous criteria of the program. The town has committed to reduce its greenhouse gases by 20 percent in 2020, compared to 2011.
Included with this commitment are 7 specific action plans, which focuses on urban greening, green tourism development, waste water treatment and efficient public lighting systems intelligent use renewable energy and building materials environmentally friendly.
Besides the cities: Chiangrai of Thailand, Jakarta of Indonesia, Petaling Jaya of Malaysia, Santa Rosa of the Philippines and Singapore. Hue is the six Southeast Asian winners of the title.
America, four from Europe and three from India, China and South Africa are five other winners.
Paris of France took home the Global Earth Hour Capital title as its plans have been considered a role model for climate action for cities around the world.
